Kytes Theatre Group

Kytes Theatre Group had it’s origins in the very early eighties. The group came together to perform challenging, quality drama of all kinds, something that we believe we have been very successful in.

Recent productions certainly bear this out, with Amadeus and Dinner both winning Best Play at the annual Brent Awards in ‘05 and ‘06. Comedies, such as Coward’s Relative Values or powerful drama, such as Marber’s Closer are all fair game provided they present us with a challenge in staging or performance.

To this end we are always on the look out for talented, enthusiastic actors and crew to help with the many and varied backstage duties. We stage two main productions a year in May and November as well as entering occasional one-act festivals.

If you’re interested in joining us membership is £40 per annum, (£20 for the unwaged,) plus a £2 room hire fee per rehearsal.

Shenfield Operatic Society usually produces two shows per year - one at the Queens Theatre, Hornchurch and the other at the Brentwood Theatre. Recent productions include Hello Dolly, Little Shop of Horrors and Crazy For You.

Occasionally, we perform concerts between our major shows, and the aim lately is to provide a supper with quality entertainment, giving audiences a chance to enjoy and join in the live theatre, instead of being "glued to the TV".

We are sometimes asked to entertain at various functions and dinners too.

The society flourishes because every one pulls his/her weight. Here are only a few things that are outside the role of performing:

• Directing Shows & Concerts
• Designing & Making Costumes
• Designing, Building and Painting Sets
• Setting & "Striking" Sets
• Designing the Posters & all Advertising Materials
• Helping to prepare Food for Concerts
• Preparing Material of Concerts etc

For more information about the society please visit the website.

For a truly varied and busy programme of events, think about joining The New Venture Players. Formed in 1978, we have an annual programme of straight plays (full length and one act), a pantomime, Murder Mystery Evenings and the occasional evening of comedy and sketches.

Winning a range of awards at different venues along the way, we perform comedy, drama, historical pieces and quite a few original works at different venues, including Brentwood Theatre.

New members to tread the boards or help out backstage are always welcome. We usually rehearse Mondays at the Harold Wood War Memorial Hall and Thursdays at Fairkytes, opposite The Queen's Theatre (handy for a cheering drink at the end of the evening).

Membership fees are £45 (concessions £22.50) and a £1.50 rehearsal fee. If you want to try just one production there is a £25 temporary membership fee.
