In 1949 Helene Hanff, a struggling American writer, hoping to indulge her love of beautiful books started a correspondence with a firm of British antiquarian booksellers that was to last for twenty years. The contents of these letters have been adapted into a moving play that chronicles the changing face of the world throughout the fifties and sixties as well as telling the story of the long-distance friendship that developed.
